Homemade Natural Flea Repellent

We have a beautiful little, long haired, Pomchi ( Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix), named Pixie. She’s absolutely adorable, Such a sweet natured, friendly and cuddly dog.

Pixie the Pomchi

Normally around this time of the year, mid spring, she would head off to the local groomers to get her hair cut. It’s a win, win for everyone. Our clothes are no longer covered in her hair, and she must feel so much lighter. However, this spring has been different. I broke my leg on 28th March and I am not able to drive right now. We live rurally with very few buses running weekly ( and none which go past the groomers), I am broke financially and the groomers were booked up for weeks ahead anyway! So, there was nothing else for it but a DIY job. I have clippers but was really procrastinating about giving Pixie a hair cut because I just didn’t want to make a hack job of it.

Well, my hand was forced because Pixie got fleas! And I made a hack job. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be though, but obviously nowhere near a great a job as the groomers make. My sweet Pixie, she looks like a very tiny sheared sheep. She looks like a newborn lamb, in fact!

How much fur!??

Pixie was incredibly well behaved throughout the whole shearing, bathing and drying experience and I actually think she enjoyed it. Her eyes were closed at points and I guess it must have felt a little like a massage.

Anyway, what this post is really about is the homemade flea repellent I knocked up. It’s super easy and, I think, must be quite effective as she seems to be flea free.

Sweet girl 🐕😊💚

Homemade Natural Flea Repellent.

One new, or very clean, pump action or spray bottle.

1 part apple cider vinegar.

2 parts water, filtered or tap.

Mix it all together well and massage into your pets fur. Do check for any cuts or open wounds your pet may have though, as it may sting, and obviously keep away from the eye area.

Leave on for a while then comb your pet using a flea comb onto a cloth which you can then wash.

I plan to make a natural homemade flea spray for around the house too, so I may blog about that.

Thanks for reading and take care lovelies.
